Can we be in the paperless world in near future? To put it simply, is it possible if we won’t need papers and inks anymore to have hard copies of soft documents? Not for the next five years is the answer from a research firm IDC. According to its prediction, demand for printers and ink will be steady for the next five years.
Hewlett Packard (HP) continues to lead the market with 42 per cent market share. HP printers are popular because of their low cost and constant upgrades. According to an expert, HP builds up 40 per cent of its market value of $71 billion on printing business. Its eminent razor blade business model keeps working to maintain the company’s market share.
Why HP is market leader can be understood from the fact that it spends more than one billion dollar on research and development every year. The technology giant has embraced around 9,000 patents of printing and imaging that also include 4,000 belonging to cartridges and ink.
HP printers are not the only prime source of income, but the company also racks up substantial sales of cartridges, which are masterpieces in engineering designs. Even if ink does not contain right amount of viscosity, it can badly damage a printer. The purpose might be to keep firm control over the after-sale market.
With the upgrades of technologies and innovation in information management, one can expect appearance of paperless world sooner than later.
