Amazon’s
Kindle Fire that glides past direct competition with newly introduced Nexus 7
is reported to be rolling out its new guardian in the tablet market in coming
months. This new tablet with a little
larger size than trendy 7-inch of 7.85-inch and with same attractive price tag
of $199 will rock the market in August, industry sources told Digitimes.
“The new Kindle Fire will be thinner than the
current version because it adopts full lamination to get rid of the air gap
between the LCD and touch panels,” they said.
There are quite good numbers of 7-inch devices
out there in the market, but nothing, thus far, beat the heat of Fire as far as
price was concerned. It is another thing that Amazon has been feeling the pinch
of cut-throat competition for last few months. Kindles shipment fell sharply to
750,000 units in the first quarter this year, from high 4.8 million units in
the preceding quarter of 2011. Apple is the market leader, holding 68 per cent
share in total shipped tablets of 17.4 million in the first three months.
Nexus 7 bearing price of $199 for 8GB and $249 for 16GB model made Amazon go
for some innovation. Notably, Kindle Fire used to be the leading user of
Android and latter’s Nexus is now setting out a firefighting mission.
