Handheld shopping is a budding trend in the internet retail industry. In the days of yore, customers were confined to only desktop environment to look for iPhone deals for example. Now, mobile platform is itself popularly used for browsing through products and price comparison and purchases.
The global leading digital business tracker gave a testimony to increasing propensity of buyers towards mobile shopping in its monthly survey report, saying ‘two of every five smartphone owners have used mobile device to make purchase’ in September.
Daily deals were found one of the top categories sought and grabbed from handheld mobile devices.
Thirty four per cent of total smartphone owners of 18 plus age purchased daily deals, noted Mobile Retail Advisor Survey Sep. 2011 conducted by comScore.
“Considering there are currently 90 million smartphone owners in the U.S., retailers without a well-developed mobile strategy are not only missing a tremendous opportunity with these customers but also risk becoming obsolete in the minds of these digital omnivores,” said Mark Donovan, comScore senior vice president for mobile.
Other products that were bought by at least 38 per cent of smartphone population included eBooks, TV shows, dresses, event passes, gift vouchers, TV, computers, fast foods, hotel room nights, airplane tickets, flowers, etc.
Justifiably, that’s why, daily deal sites are coming up with their distinguished versions of mobile apps in the course of empowering mobile buyers to cash in on the best deals out there.
A finding in the survey went on to challenge the perception that mobile devices are used for shopping only when buyers are roaming around.
Half of the mobile shoppers in the survey made shopping from the coziness of their home. As near as 56 per cent smartphone buyers placed buying orders from home, suggested the report.
Buyers are getting fond of comfort and majority of them apparently love to enjoy retail service—that is but not limited to deal of the day—while reclining comfortably in chaise longue.
One can say that it is not only a label of hot deals that set the buyers in motion, but deal mongers have also to stud their deals with hands-on technologies to facilitate comfort conscious coupon collectors.
