As Christmas is round the corner, buying is accelerating with consumer spending on Christmas gifts scaling up year on year. Although near half of the average American has made purchases related to holiday shopping, many people are still looking for Christmas deals to bag the price benefits.
According to National Retail Federation (NRF) 2011 Consumer Intentions and Actions survey conducted by BIGresearch, 31.4 per cent have already purchased Christmas gifts.
It has also found responses that go in favor of discounted offers. Majority of shoppers want to save money while shopping items for Christmas decorations or gift items.
Gallup’s November forecast has revealed seven per cent increment in consumer spending on Christmas presents. The American consumers are expected to spend $764 average on gifts this holiday season as compared to $714 a year ago.
It is also interesting to note that price has been a real driver of consumers so far this season. They are gravitating towards discretionary gifts all the more over last year.
“Apparel (44.2 per cent vs. 43.9 per cent), electronics (23.8pc vs. 21.3pc), toys (36.3pc vs. 35.3pc), jewelry (15.9pc vs. 14.1pc), and personal care items (17.1pc vs. 16.3pc 2010) rank some of the top gifts so far this year,” as per the survey.
Having polled 8,402 consumers from November 30 to December 7, 2011, the survey suggested last-minute gifts kept shoppers from bringing holiday shopping to an end. Obviously, they are waiting for hot Christmas deals in the last week.
Internet shopping is increasing with consumers harnessing desktop and mobile environs to make purchases.
One-third of table computer owners expressed willingness to buy products from their devices while most smartphone owners would use their mobile phones for finding out product information and price comparison.
