One can cut the list of items he/she is intended to purchase when economic situation is not in favor of consumers, but abandoning necessities that used to be in an easy access is not a heartening decision. Be noted, consumer spending continued to drop for three years up to 2010.
Shopping deals and coupons spring up timely to get the consumers rid of bad habits of incision. Online discount market, especially group buying, had started to spout promotional discounts of a score of consumer products including apparel, computers, electronics, gifts, kitchen accessories, mobiles, perfumes, tools, watches, etc. at a time when the economy was reeling from sobering slump causing erosion in buying power.
Things have been improved to a great extent nowadays. But, the analysts still fear implications of imported inflation. Rise in petroleum prices lead to increase in cost of production in various industries that somehow have to pass on the price hikes down to end users.
There is a forecast of prevalence of low consumer confidence this year as well. And, that can unquestionably be offset by the shopping deals, which incentivize consumers on shelling out money. Because of coupons/deals, consumers need not to suppress their desires/needs of goods and services. Local deals/printable coupons enable consumers to make budgeted shopping.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported two per cent fall in average annual expenditures per consumer during 2010. That drooping trend was continuation of 2.8 per cent decrease in 2009.
Consumer spending on food, housing, transportation, entertainment, apparel and services etc. stayed lower than expected. Consumers shelled out an average $1,801 on purchases of apparel and services in 2008. This figure went down 4.2 per cent to $1,725 in 2009 and 1.4 per cent to $1,700 in 2010.
This year is expected to mirror the indicators of past with people eagerness to shopping deals swelling up.
